Hey friends,
I'm back again๐.
Today we shall talk about something that you enjoy several times a day๐.....Guess what?๐.....Oh no....It's not your daily sops (or reality shows as the case may be....hihihi)๐.......
Ok clue no. 1-It satisfies one of your sense organs (in fact two, precisely)....ummm...No no it isn't music (not in this post at least, may be I shall cover it later)....for now, back to the question....☝
Ok ok clue no. 2-one part of your house is dedicated to this very necessity.....you have guessed it. ๐
Right?
Not even now?๐
Then, clue no. 3- It has something to do with your appetite๐ฑ.....Hihihi....๐
No marks for guessing now๐....yes, its "food". Food, the main purpose of which is survival and health fulfills a number of auxiliary purposes as well like taste, status, trend etc. obviously added in the so called modern scientific world.๐
Dear friends, here I accept that my clue no. 1 was a little misleading as the restaurants today cater not only to your nose๐ and tongue๐ but also to your eyes๐, ears๐, skin๐ and that seventh sense organ, the social media๐ฒ. Don't you believe me?
The icing over the cakes, the well placed cutlery and even the sauce painting (ah...I mean serving) are a treat to the eyes.....I just feel like singing Itna sona tujhe chef ne bnayaaaaaa...aaa.. jeee kare dekhta rahun. (Did you too sing it in tune?...hehe)

And that "tadka" sound from a Daal or Curry have the unique ability of doubling your appetite. (Hopefully the significance of the same was recognized by FM 95 while naming it as FM TADKA ๐ถ). However I accept that the sound of the pressure cooker whistling at you can be categorized as a noise pollution but the aroma of the spice that it brings with it acquits it of conviction as Supreme court did in the 2G spectrum case (Disclaimer- I respect Supreme court and its verdict and this statement was not meant to undermine its supremacy in any way. I apologize if I unintentionally did so.๐)
Coming on to skin, for people who have never experienced the "param anand" of eating with the hands and prefer spoon, fork, knife etc. please skip this paragraph or else you with brand me with the title of being "UNCIVILISED". For others, the touch of mixing warm dal (pulses) with that seperated (not clumped) rice seems to activate the appetite part of your brain and you have already got half of its taste and your fingers help you finish the food till it last trace. Holding a fluffy dwindling cake piece, balancing it, lest its cream falls down is another piece of satisfying experience. If you can recall some more, serve it in comments.๐
And yes, the seventh sense organ; not the sixth because it is already defined- they say when no other senses can work, the sixth sense gives you the way out but when the seventh sense works (where the others should have worked) it paralyses all other senses๐ฒ. So, here i would just clear the scenario by examples-
Seema posted on her FB account "feeling excited making chhola bhatura for the first time." and the sound of notifications muted up the sound of the shouting pressure cooker, "arey pehle gas to off kr de maalkin."๐จ resulting in an spoiled debut chhola bhatura.
Shikha ordered Cold coffee at Starbucks cafe but because the word cold melted away in the time she took some 200 to 300 photos and selfies only, she had to compromise with the coffee half the monetary value.
I here recommend all the restaurant owners to manufacture a replica of their costliest dishes and charge minimal for just taking photos with it on their table. I bet their revenues will double because you know "social media pe dishes khane ki aur, dikhane ki aur"๐
But after you enjoy all your food whether at home or at the best restaurant of your region don't leave it back, for your plate is a non living thing. Here I would like to share with you a short story-
Bimla (and not Kamla this time, let's give her some rest) behaved exactly opposite to her usual behaviour today. She had been preaching her daughter, Khushi, not to waste food, from time immemorial, but in vain. But what happened today not only surprised her daughter but even annoyed her. "Mom that was my favourite cake. You were not only selfish to have taken my part but also irresponsible to have not completely eaten it and I found it lying rotten in the dustbin. It had not been this painful had you even eaten it completely. That was so careless of you Mom. You know we don't buy cake so often and still..."Khushi was screaming when Bimla held her hand softly, took her to the window and showed her chhotku, the little boy with a old torn sack, searching eatables in the pile of garbage on the other side of the road. The timing was correct (may be to teach her a lesson), and chhotku discovered something wrapped in napkin. Yes, it was that very piece of chocolate cake. His eyes beamed and he looked left and right to check whether there were stray dogs to snatch it from him and after being sure of no danger stealthily kept it in his sack like some very very valuable thing (indeed it was for him) and licked the cream that had stayed over his finger. Immediately chhotku's expressions changed and it seemed that he tried to vomit and spit it. With a gravely disappointed face he threw that cake out into the garbage again and began searching for something else. Khushi was wise enough to realize what it meant and immediately her mood changed, "Mom could you please give me a few chappatis for him." said she with tears lining her eyes. Bimla kissed her forehead, gave her chappatis and a piece of the fresh cake she had secretly bought. Khushi ran calling chhotku and gave it to him. She had never been as satisfied as she was today. "Everytime you leave food in the plate just imagine the face of chhotku searching the same food rotten up in the garbage and slowly you will be able to change your habit of wasting food my child." Bimla taught her smilingly.
Every piece of bread, every grain of rice, every drop of milk that you took above your appetite and that landed into the dustbin was actually the right of that poor who died from hunger. So I say,
And anyone out there who still feels that what difference does a few grams of wasted food in his/her plate makes, should read the following stats with utmost attention.
According to UN FAO, one third of the total food produced in the world is wasted the weight of which is 1.3 billion tonnes. India itself loses a whooping 96000 crore rupees approx due to food wastage per year and this lands India at 100th rank in the global hunger index that includes 119 countries. Food wastage results into food inflation. In one such case the poor in Haiti is compelled to eat mud cakes, yes literally the mud cakes. In addition to this FAO also told that wasted food while being produced and then rotting up adds to carbon emission by about 10% thus adding to global warming. UN stated way back in 2013 itself that if wasted food was a country, it would be the third largest producer of carbon dioxide in the world. This was just to make you realise the magnitude of the problem. The best part is that you can help in the international efforts by a very easy step- reducing and eliminating the leftovers.
Moreover, the three appreciable benefits of not taking in plate more than stomach's capacity are that it
1. Manages your calorie intake at the first step.๐
2. Prevents the surgical strike over your pocket....I mean saves your money.๐ฑ
3. Gives opportunity to feed more number of people.๐
My friends! Believe me! The day you keep your plates in sink without debris in it, you have already paid a hefty contribution to the cause of food security.✌
I feel many of you should be already doing it. The others, I hope will start it from their next meal.
The world awaits.
Have a satisfying meal. Take care.๐
